So you’ve gone on holiday, or are away from home and have followed our guide on how to schedule your posts in WordPress but now a massive event related to your topic has come to light, and you can’t visit your website..
So why not write your post, send it via email, and have it appear on your blog within minutes?
Setting up “Post by Email” is a fairly simple process, and once it is done, you can use it as much or as little as you like.
So, follow our steps below to enable the feature:
- Log into your WordPress Dashboard and hover over ‘Settings’ then select ‘Writing’:
- Scroll down to the section on posting via email, here you will see the notes on this feature, and the settings you will need to fill in. Take note of the ‘ it’s a good idea to keep this address very secret’ – The reason for this is, any email sent to this email address will be posted to your blog, so make sure it’s hard to guess, I suggest using one of the random strings suggested by WordPress:
- Once you have chosen an email to use (do NOT use a free provider such as gmail/hotmail/yahoo – if possible, set one up at your web host) create it at your web host. Why not check our knowledge base article on creating an email account in cPanel to help you out.
- Now go back to the Post Via Email settings in WordPress and fill out the details of the new account you created. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Save Settings.
- WordPress now has the ability to check the email address for new posts. However, in order to make WordPress check regularly, and post the emails to your blog, we need to add a little bit of code into your footer.php file.
- To do this, hover over ‘Appearance’ and then select ‘Editor’:
- Then select ‘Footer (footer.php)’ at the right, and add the following code:

- Click on ‘Update File’
Once this is done, your blog should now add any new posts you have emailed, as long as someone visits your page.
